Purpose

At the Good News Rescue Mission, we believe everyone deserves a second chance and that no one is beyond grace. We make a difference in our community when we come together to share God's love with our neighbors. Whether it's through a hot meal, safe shelter, recovery programs or job-training, your support makes a difference to our neighbors experiencing homelessness and poverty. Jesus showed His love by serving others, and that's what we try to do, too.

Mission statement

The purpose of the Good News Rescue Mission is to bring Good News to the poor, homeless, or needy of Shasta County by:

Sharing the love of God exemplified by the life and ministry of Jesus Christ.
Providing emergency subsistence services (food, shelter, and clothing).
Providing long-term recovery services.
Educating and equipping the people of Shasta County to effectively minister to needy people.

Statement of faith

We believe in the radical and unconditional love of the Father. A love so profound Jesus would pronounce forgiveness over the most unworthy, the most shameful and the most broken.

We believe in the power of the Holy Spirit to fill us with a love so deep, people can tangibly experience the love of God through us.

We believe without love nothing else matters, for the absence of love is the absence of God.

And what we believe defines how we live, because all of humanity needs to know the radical nature of the Father's love.

History

Founded in 1964 by a group of concerned Christians, the Good News Rescue Mission has since offered a hand up out of emotional, physical and spiritual poverty to thousands.

What started as a 3 bedroom shelter for men has grown into a 389-bed facility offering various services to men, women and children in need. All free of charge.

Our heart for Shasta County continues to expand along with our services.
